Everything you wanted to know about entering the VR Art Challenge in one place

Why is everything in english?

We can teach you VR tools, but we cannot teach you english. Unfortunately the VR art tools are in english.

When does the Challenge call for entries open?

June 2, 2018. 

When does the Challenge close for entries ?

September 15, 2018. 

Who’s eligible to enter?

Artists with NO previous knowledge of VR + VR art tools

Street artists, Graffiti artists, Illustrators, Tape artists, Painters, Visual Artists, Performers, Installation artists, Art students, Media students, etc.

What do i have to do, to participate?

1. Send us 3 photos of your best art works, that represent your style

We will get in contact with you for a dialogue, to find out if your art is possible in VR

2. Wait for the email , that confirms you are one of the 25 selected participants


What are the steps to win?

1. You get an introduction into the  VR art tools and select your favorite tool.
At this point pay the 50.- € 

2. Workshop with a tutor to learn how to create your artwork in VR 

3. Make a sketch with your interpretation of the topic: Off the wall
This can be a pencil or color sketch.


4. Create your art work in VR with a tutor by your side, add 10 #hashtags 

5. Your art work is transformed into an augmented reality experience

6. Now the judges decide on the 10 finalists. The finalists are eligible
for the Prizes as described >> here

What does it cost?

It’s 50,00 € for one accepted application. A not-for-profit organisation, VR Area 42 receives no outside funding.

All participation fees go directly towards the participation packs.

What can I win?

The 10 finalists are eligible for three awards: the People’s Choice, the Future Prize and the Grand Prize. The prizes and more details are here.

What kind of art is eligible?

All art is eligible as long as it is created in VR. If you have any questions regarding whether your work suits the VR Art Challenge, please email to : off-the-wall@vr2go.club

 Do I have to choose a category to enter ?

No, The categories are only for the judging and the prizes 

What kind of equipment can artists use?

Artists can use the provided Vr setups in VR Lounge ( booking !) HTC Vive or Oculus VR

How does the judging work?

All works are reviewed by our selection committee, made up of art and VR specialists. This group selects the 20 Participants, which are eligible for a public vote for the People’s Choice award in November. If you are selected for the 10 Finalists, we will email you in late October.

 Who judges the top prizes?

The 10 finalists will then be reviewed by a jury panel which will select the categories and top prize winners. The full list of our panel can be found here. The finalists will be announced in late October and the winners will be announced at the 2018 VR Art Challenge ceremony on November 9. 2018 at the Panke in Berlin

Any other opportunities for participants, finalists and winners?

Yes. Lots of media and a viral augmented reality exhibition.

Rules and Regulations

VR ART Challenge BEGINS: June 2, 2017
LAST APPOINTMENT for Applications:
September 15, 2018 
Who May Enter:
Artists and art/ media students, with residency in Germany
who are of the age of majority, with NO ! experience in VR art tools
Employees of Sponsors, and their affiliates, agents and members of their immediate families are not eligible to enter.
Maximum 20 artists accepted
Requirements for Application:
Visit Apply and complete the online application form, which includes your email address and 3 artworks in your usual style, and upload 3 jpg, jpeg, or png file of no more than 25MB.
When you are selected to participate in the challenge, submit an original artwork/sketch. The entry must be a work created specifically for this contest with the Topic “ Off the wall “
Participation fee : 50 € ( see participation pack )

Applications will be accepted beginning June 2, 2018 at 12:00 
All applications must be received by organizer by September 15, 2018 at 12:00 pm. 
Entries that include any of the following will be rejected in organizer’s sole discretion:
Provocative, lewd or sexual content;
Offensive or vulgar language;
Trademarks, logos, or
Other intellectual property not owned by Entrant


Determination of the Winner:
From November 1, 2018, a panel of VR and art experts will choose ten (10) finalists based on the following criteria. The 20 participants are open for the people’s choice prize, which will be voted on the November 9,2018 in Panke e.V..
In the event of a tie, the highest score in “Off the wall” will be selected as a finalist.
On November 9, 2018, a panel of jury members will judge the ten finalists 
based on the criteria in this Voting form
The finalist receiving the highest overall score will be designated the Grand Prize Winner, subject to verification. The finalist in each category with the highest score wins the category Prize
The Grand Prize Winner will be announced November 9, 2018 

Prizes:
The Grand Prize Winning artwork will be featured on the contest landing page and in the yard at Panke
The Grand Prize Winner will receive a VR Laptop and a VR Headset of choice ( Vive/ Oculus )
Prizes for the other categories are to be determined
All Prizes are not transferable.

Conditions of Entry:
Entry in the contest by submission of artwork constitutes your agreement to the rules and conditions set forth herein.
By submitting an entry, you agree that Organizer may use your name and likeness for advertising and publicity purposes in connection with the Challenge, without further compensation.
By submitting an entry, you represent and warrant that the Entry is original to you, has not been submitted to another contest, and does not infringe the intellectual property rights or rights of privacy or publicity of any third person, is not obscene, pornographic, harmful, offensive or inappropriate and will not otherwise violate the rights of any third person and is under no limitation that will restrict or prevent organizer’s use of the Entry in the conduct of the Contest or any subsequent use contemplated herein in the award of prizes. 
The Grand Prize Winner also agrees, for no compensation, to grant to Sponsor a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to publish, modify, make available to the public, distribute and reproduce the Entry through any and all media or formats for any purpose, including commercial purposes, and/or the marketing, advertising, and promotion of Sponsor and its products and services, and will, upon request execute an affidavit of eligibility and a written license confirming the foregoing. In addition, Grand Prize winner warrants that any moral rights in the Entry have been waived and agrees that Sponsor may use any ideas from any Entry or other submitted materials.
All decisions of organizer with regard to the conduct of the contest are final.
Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any entrant found to be disrupting the operation of the Contest or its web site, or who has submitted multiple entries, or who has otherwise violated the Contest rules or taken any action contrary to the fair administration of the Contest.
Entrants agree that the Organizer has the sole right to decide all matters and disputes arising from this Contest and that all decisions of Sponsor shall be final and binding and not subject to challenge or appeal.
